Transit time starts before the flight

The first clock starts when cargo is truly ready for pickup with labels, carton data, commercial invoice, and any product declarations complete. Many China to US air shipments lose time before the airport because the cargo is not actually document-ready.

Airport movement is only one stage

After pickup, the shipment still needs export handling, security processing, flight allocation, and departure. A fast flight does not guarantee a fast door-to-FBA timeline if the cargo misses a cutoff or waits for airline acceptance.

US clearance and handoff matter

Once the cargo lands in the US, customs release, destination handling, trucking, and delivery appointment timing become the main variables. For Amazon freight, the receiving buffer after physical delivery can be just as important as the airport-to-airport time.

How sellers should plan the lane

Use air freight when the China to US route needs urgency, but build a schedule around sellable inventory date rather than estimated arrival. If the shipment supports a launch or restock, include a buffer for customs inspection, warehouse unloading, and Amazon check-in.

When transit time becomes a mode decision

If the required timeline is still too tight after realistic buffers, split the shipment. Send only the urgent quantity by air and move the balance by ocean so the time-critical units reach FBA without paying air freight for the full order.

Carrier capacity, customs inspection, weather, and Amazon receiving conditions can all change the actual timeline.
Dangerous goods, batteries, and restricted products often need extra review time before departure.
