Air freight cost and airline acceptance both depend on the final packed shipment, not a factory estimate made before repacking or labeling is complete. When dimensions change late, chargeable weight can jump and turn a fast fix into an expensive correction.

Mistake 2: treating the air rate as the whole landed cost

Many sellers compare only the linehaul rate per kilogram and forget China export handling, US customs, airport transfer, prep-center handoff, or final Amazon delivery coordination. That creates false quote comparisons and makes the cheapest headline rate look safer than it really is.

Mistake 3: skipping restricted-cargo review

Batteries, liquids, powders, magnets, cosmetics, and branded goods can all create airline or customs friction. If the cargo needs extra documents or packing treatment, that should be solved before booking space instead of after the shipment reaches the airport.

Mistake 4: planning from flight time instead of sellable date

A shipment can fly quickly and still miss the business need because customs release, prep, delivery appointments, and Amazon receiving take longer than expected. The operational target is the date units need to be sellable, not the date the cargo lands in the US.

Mistake 5: using air for the full order when only part is urgent

If only a launch quantity or restock bridge is time-sensitive, split the order. Sending the entire production run by air is often the most expensive possible answer when the real problem is only a small urgent inventory gap.
