Mistake 1: buying the cheapest headline quote

A low forwarder quote is weak when it omits customs support, delivery handling, prep routing, or exception costs that still have to be paid later. Sellers should compare real scope, not only the opening number.

Mistake 2: leaving route scope undefined

If nobody has defined whether the forwarder owns customs, prep, delivery, or appointment handling, the shipment will eventually hit a gap. Scope problems are cheaper to solve before the freight is booked.

Mistake 3: assuming every forwarder fits every cargo profile

Different cargo types, route patterns, and handoff requirements need different strengths. Sellers lose time when they pick a forwarder who can quote the lane but cannot actually manage the cargo profile cleanly.

Mistake 4: planning from movement milestones instead of sellable date

A shipment that reaches the country or terminal on time can still miss the business need if the Amazon handoff was not planned correctly. The operating target should be sellable inventory date.

Mistake 5: finding exception ownership too late

Document corrections, customs questions, relabeling, or delivery misses are normal logistics events. Sellers should know who owns them before the cargo is moving, not when the first problem appears.
