What an FBA freight forwarder actually owns

A useful Amazon FBA freight forwarder does more than book space. They coordinate pickup, export documents, mode selection, customs clearance, delivery appointments, Amazon reference IDs, and issue recovery when cartons, pallets, or labels do not match the shipment plan.

Information to send before asking for a quote

Send origin city, ready date, destination fulfillment center or marketplace, carton count, carton dimensions, gross weight, product description, declared value, HS code if known, Incoterm, and whether units need labeling, polybagging, bundling, or palletization.

What to compare in quotes

Compare total landed cost, not only the ocean or air linehaul. Ask whether the quote includes pickup, export handling, destination terminal fees, customs entry, duties and taxes, delivery, appointment handling, Amazon wait time, and residential or limited-access surcharges when applicable.

Red flags

Be cautious when a quote does not identify the mode, route, delivery scope, customs responsibility, or exclusions. Very low DDP quotes can hide weak customs assumptions, poor importer-of-record handling, or limited support if Amazon rejects the load.

Best fit

For stable replenishment, use a forwarder who can build repeatable lanes and shipment templates. For launches, prioritize response speed, documentation checks, and a backup air or express plan in case production slips.
